For those who work in the EMC Documentum/Life Sciences space, there's been a big announcement in your world: CSC announced an agreement with EMC Corporation to offer advanced compliance solutions to the life sciences industry. As part of the agreement, EMC will now offer CSC's FirstDoc as a preferred regulatory compliance application.
Marko Sillanpaa, who works for EMC and blogs at Big Men On Content, says that this is a big deal. I wonder if his employer thinks so; the announcement wasn't even mentioned (let alone featured) on the front page of EMC's site today, in fact, there wasn't even a press release in EMC's news room. CSC certainly got the word out, and I doubt that its PR department is that much better, bigger or quicker than EMC's (in my experience EMC's is top notch); so I suspect (and,of course, I could be wrong), that this agreement means much more to one company's management than to the other's. I have a very smart ECM Architect friend (want to come out of the closet on this one?) who loves to remind me that EMC, at its heart, is a hardware/storage company and that software is not its main focus or its main business. I suspect that when he reads this, he'll say, "Here's more proof!"
