First an apology, this entry was supposed to be about Documentum 6 (D6) but then we got news that's just too interesting not to share.
It seems that Microsoft is positioning itself to compete directly against Documentum (or EMC, if you prefer) in Documentum's most sacred marketplace.
"What's that?" you might ask? Life Sciences, duh. And is Microsoft being quiet about it? Not hardly.

I just spoke to Luis Scala at Alfresco and they seem to be making quite an impact among ECM users. Their enterprise customer install base is bigger than I thought, and it's growing rapidly. Luis gave me some insight as to where I might find the skinny on their growth. I'll let you know what I find.
Before I get on with the rest of this post, I do want to comment on how friendly and forthcoming the folks at Alfresco are. First a disclaimer...the title of this entry "The Evolution of Content Management" was coined by EMC, and not us.
And because we don't think you'll have time enough to read about all the press on the EMC World Conference in great detail, this post is in list form (but we have included a few pictures so you can put faces on the people who delivered the presentations at the conference.)
What was hot at EMC World? That depends on who you ask. Momentum attendees came away with one answer and Developers' Conference attendees with quite another.
Here is a list based on the Momentum 2007 keynote:
